Continuing its tradition of giving back to its host, Fleet 43 has donated Regatta Pro Start to the Portland Yacht Club. Regatta Pro Start is an automatic starting horn that relieves the race committee of the demanding task of keeping time for shooting guns and allows them to pay closer attention to the start line. The system was used by the race committees in the most recent Louis Vuitton and America’s Cup races and by the Storm Trysail Club at last year’s Block Island Race Week.
Not only will Regatta Pro Start make things easier for race committees, it will also save PYC roughly $1,000 annually on shotgun shells. No shotguns also means improved on-ther-water safety. We expect it to be installed on the Lindsay Lord in time for the first Wednesday night race.
As a result of the savings that PYC will realize in 2008, the PYC Board has redirected $500 budget dollars in Fleet 43’s name to the construction of the Bud Singer Dock House. The Dock House is under construction now and should be complete shortly. Fleet members interested in donating toward the construction of the Bud Singer Dock House should contact Tony Jessen or Chip Harris.

At the Fleet meeting last night we conducted the following business:
Approved the calendar for the year, which is now posted at http://www.j24fleet43.org/pages/calendar.php. Launch on the 17th and first Wednesday night race on the 21st!
Approved Fleet dues and Wednesday Night registration fees, all of which were reduced from last year. Wednesday night registration will be $200, Fleet dues are $50 and the “alternate helmsman” fee is $25.
Appointed Molly White as the Downeast Regatta Co-Chair.

I would like to list Rockstar for charter for the season. She has a mooring off from the Town Landing, parking near PYC. If I can’t get a seasonal charter I would like to list it for sale. Now that I have the J41 Northstar I have 2 too many boats and not enough help and $$ to support them. I like to list her for $9000. #2250 1980 great condition and a nice trailer ready to go. Fleet 43 will hold a meeting on Thursday May 8th at 6PM upstairs at Handy Boat to finalize preparations for the season. You participation is encouraged. At the meeting we will:
- Elect officers for the coming season
- Ratify the proposed calendar
- Review the Fleet’s financial status
Our proposed calendar has been updated and is available here. Please note that the Fleet launch date has been set for May 17th at 9:30 AM and our first Wednesday night race has tentatively been scheduled for May 21st.

Attention on Deck!! PYC’s annual Spring clean-up day is this Saturday starting at 7:30. Whether you are a club member or not, an hour or two of your time helping to prepare the Club for the season is much appreciated. Please pitch in!

Skippers, this is a good place to line up crew for the upcoming season so that you don’t find yourself double-handing in 20 knots on a Wednesday night. Free beer and munchies too!
Plan on joining your fellow Fleet 43 mates on Wednesday April 9th at 6:00 at the Foreside Tavern. The plan is to have a couple of beers and discuss plans for the 2008 season. See you there.

Only about 100 more days until our launch date and we’ve finally made arrangements to have our 2007 Season Awards party. So, mark your calendars for Wednesday February 27th at 6:30 at The Stadium (504 Congress St in Portland). There will be a cash bar, hors dourves, awards, prizes and a guaranteed good time reconnecting with fellow Fleet members. Look forward to seeing you there!
