The District 1 Championship is being held in Mallett’s Bay Vermont this year, the weekend before Changing of the Colors.  The NOR is available here.  I encourage everybody to consider attending.  Travelling to other’s events also helps to generate interest in, and commitment to, our own “big” regataa, The Downeast.

Wednesday Results – Series I and July 16

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The first Wednesday night series ended with the drifter we had two days before the 4th.  Al finished first with 20 points, edging out Mr Hankey by 2.25 points.  Flying Circus was 3rd with 31 points. Awards for each week and for the series should be ready shortly.

I mentioned in an earlier post that the racing had been close and, while the fleet spread out a bit, a lot of that had to do with boats that were unable to compete for a week or two.  Of the 12 boats that competed in the 14-race first series, 8 registered at least one bullet.

Last nights racing was close as well.  Second Chance won the first race and Denali the second both with large leads over the rest of the fleet.  Al (5-4, 4th for the night) and Draco (4-5, 5th for hte night) were within two feet of eachother at the finish in both races.  The overall winner for the evening though was Rich Carlson and Flying Chicken with a 2-2.  Nicely done.

Holy Martyrs Parking Lot Fund Raising

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

As I mentioned after racing last night we are trying to raise funds to pass on to the Holy Martyrs church for repairs to their parking lot.  Here is the email a few of us recieved from Tom Hall last week.

 Dear Fellow Racer,

We all have crew that uses the parking lot at Holy Martyrs Church on weekday nights. It?s possible that no other conveniently located organization, outside of the sailing community has done more to facilitate weekday night racing at PYC than Holy Martyrs Church. If you or one of your crew members have driven through the Holy Martyrs parking lot recently, you?ve probably noticed there are a number of potholes that are in need to be repaired. This repair work will cost money.

Over the next ?few weeks, Mark Waite and I will be collecting donations for Holy Martyrs, specifically for maintenance of the parking lot. We feel this would be a excellent way to say thank you to a great neighbor who provides such a vital service. Our goal is to raise at least $1000 for the church, so we are looking for 10 of us to put up $100 each. ?

If you would like to contribute, please make a check out to Holy Martyrs Church with the check memo “Parking Lot Maintenance Fund”. If you prefer, you can also send your contribution directly to Holy Martyrs, 266 Foreside Rd, Falmouth, Maine 04105, Attn: Father Joseph Ford. If you do mail a check directly, please let me know ?so I can include you name in our “thank you” letter to the church.

Please feel free to share this email with fellow sailors, so we can reach our goal.

Thanks,

Tom

Fleet 43 will be making a modest donation from fleet funds. I encourage the rest of you to respond to Tom’s appeal and thanks to those of you kind enough to have donated last night.
