Haul Out Clarification

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

I understand that some fleet boats want to come out before October 23rd. So I have arranged an earlier fleet haul out with Handy Boat on Saturday September 25th starting at 8:00 am.

To be clear, the only boats that will be hauling out on the Sunday after the Downeast are the visiting competitors and fleet 43 boats that are registered for Nationals.  Boats traveling to Lake George can haul out on the 25th of September.

I have spoken to Jay Hallett about this and hauling the thirteen boats on Sunday is his max.

Below is the current haul out schedule:

Sunday September 12th-Boats registered for Nationals can haul out after the boats from away
Saturday September 25th (8:00 am)-Any Fleet 43 boat or Etchelles can be hauled out
Saturday October 23rd (8:00 am)-Any Fleet 43 boat or Etchelles can be hauled out

Important Haul Out Information

Sunday, September 5th, 2010

The J24 and Etchelles Haul Out is on the calendar for Saturday, October 23rd starting 8:00 am at Handy Boat Service.

The reason for the later haul out is to allow for both fleets to participate in the PYC Fall Series and the Sail Maine Leafer’s Last Leg.  Besides…the breeze is just starting to pick up!

Boats that plan to travel to Nationals or Lake George can haul out at the Downeast Regatta after the away boats are out.  Fleet 43 member haul out is not included in the Downeast registration, so fleet 43 boats are expected to pay the $50 haul out fee if they haul out on either September 12th or October 23rd.

If you plan to haul your boat at the Downeast Regatta, please contact the fleet captain, Molly White at mollyfrommaine@yahoo.com, so that a list can be given to Handy Boat Service.

Please remember that visiting boats take priority at haul out.

Thanks for a great season and we hope to see some of you out there for fall sailing!

76th Monhegan Volunteer Opportunities

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Hey Fleet 43ers,

The 76th Monhegan Island Race is coming up August 12th-15th. It takes a lot of volunteers to make this event happen and the Portland Yacht Club could use your help. If you are interested in any of the areas below please shoot me an email at mollyfrommaine@yahoo.com and I will sign you up.

Thursday Night Monhegan Bartenders (shifts between 5:00 and 10:00) Ever wonder who those friendly people are behind the bar?  It could be you!

Monhegan Ambassadors-meet out of town racers, answer questions, help them run errands, cheer for them at awards.  This is a great opportunity to meet new people and lend a helping hand.  If you are out going and friendly this is the job for you.

Provisioning Race Committee-(at starting line and/or finish line) Love to buy food, make sure everyone is fed, a true mom at heart?  Feed our Race Committee (cost is reimbursed)

Radio contact and club welcoming at club-(need multiple shifts (6) from 7:00 pm Friday until race finish Saturday night) This will include monitoring radios, recording finish times, welcoming and replacing food trays for returning racers.  Are you a night owl? Like to talk to strangers on the radio and welcome them back from a long journey?  Sign up to be the voice of PYC at night.

Monhegan Finish Line-(need multiple shifts (6) from 7:00 pm Friday to finish of the race Saturday night to be on station at Portland Head Light in RV.)  If you are a fan of the beautiful views from Portland Head light with sailboats going by-come sit in a comfy RV and finish our racers.

Setting up RV and Radar at Portland Head Light-Friday evening and take down after race.  This is a job for a person that is comfortable driving BIG vehicles and has some know how with electronics.

Trophy Polishing-before August 13th-Anyone who owns silver can do this.

Trophy Set Up-August 12th or 13th-This is a perfect job for those of you who have a flare for design and organization.

Help with Breakfast clean up-Sunday between 11 and 12.  Come pile on blueberry pancakes and then work it off with clean up duty.

Bar-tending Sunday Morning-10 to 3-Serving up specialty beverages to accompany our delicious breakfast.

Club clean up Sunday after awards- around 2 or 3-Need to stick around anyway to wait for a loved one to clean up the boat or to watch the awards.  Stick around and lend a quick hand.

Help us plan the Downeast Regatta

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Monday July 19th-there will be a meeting to work on the organization and planning of the 25th Downeast Regatta.  Anyone who has sailed in the fleet is welcome to come help out.  We love new ideas that keep the regatta getting better each year! So spread the word to your crew.

Please join us at PYC at 6:30 pm for this meeting.

A Few Fleet Updates

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Double-handed Regatta- In case you missed the news, the date of the Double-handed Regatta has been changed from July 10th to Saturday August 7th. This event is included in the Tonini and Weekend Series.  There is no excuse for having no crew…you only need two people!  As with last year, the skippers meeting will be held around noon and following racing there will be a cookout and awards.  There will be a low entry fee including a side dish for the cook out. More details heading your way soon!

Boothbay Regatta- The Boothbay Regatta is just around the corner, July 17th and 18th.  In the past we have had quite a few boats from our fleet make the trek up to the regatta.  Keep it in mind for a fun weekend get away.

Downeast Regatta- Mark your calendars, the 25th Annual Downeast regatta is hitting the shores of Casco Bay September 11th and 12th.  Sign up now and show you are a hard core “Downeaster.”

Friend of Fleet 43- Don’t forget to sign up to become a friend of fleet 43.  This shows your support of our fleet, gets the word out about fleet 43, and helps lower fleet costs.
