Help Out PYC RC

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Next week is the final Fall Series Race at PYC.  Tim Tolford is looking for one or two more people to help out on the Lindsay Lord for the final race.  It is just for the afternoon, so you wouldn’t have to be there until 11:30 am, the course is set with all government marks so it should be pretty straight forward.

I know that this is a busy time for everyone, but the club does let us use the Lindsay Lord all season for our series and it is always nice to give back.  If any one would be willing to help out, please reply to Tim Tolford (tolford1@maine.rr.com) or me and I will pass it on.

Also, Saturday the 9th there will be a Race Committee Forum open to any interested parties at PYC before Racing-10:30 am.  This is an opportunity for discussion, questions and ideas to be shared about how we can make racing at PYC better.  Please come down and through out some ideas!

Doublehanded with a twist!

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Saturday August 7th is the Fleet 43 Double Handed Regatta

The skipper’s meeting is at noon

The first gun is at 1:00 pm

Awards and BBQ to follow racing.

Here are a bunch of reasons to sail in the Double Handed:

  1. It is easy to find crew
  2. It counts toward the Tonini Series
  3. It only takes up half a Saturday
  4. You get BBQ
  5. It is pretty cheap $25 and a side for the BBQ
  6. If you don’t have a J24 you can race in the new double handed/family PHRF division

Enough said!  Check out the NOR and please email Molly White if you plan to race.  So far we have four boats in each class signed up.

Double Handed Regatta

Monday, July 26th, 2010

The Doublehanded Regatta is coming up soon,  actually Saturday, August 7th.

This year we will be including a PHRF class as well.  There will be more information coming soon in the form of an NOR.

Here are some details to get you all thinking:

The skipper’s meeting will be held at PYC at noon on Saturday the 7th.  The first gun will be at 1:00 pm and following racing we will have awards with burgers and dogs.

To register for this event simply email Molly White at mollyfrommaine@yahoo.com.  The registration fee for this event will be $25 and each boat should bring a side dish for the BBQ.

Remember that this event is a part of the Tonini Series so we hope to see lots of the fleet boats out there!

A Few Fleet Updates

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Double-handed Regatta- In case you missed the news, the date of the Double-handed Regatta has been changed from July 10th to Saturday August 7th. This event is included in the Tonini and Weekend Series.  There is no excuse for having no crew…you only need two people!  As with last year, the skippers meeting will be held around noon and following racing there will be a cookout and awards.  There will be a low entry fee including a side dish for the cook out. More details heading your way soon!

Boothbay Regatta- The Boothbay Regatta is just around the corner, July 17th and 18th.  In the past we have had quite a few boats from our fleet make the trek up to the regatta.  Keep it in mind for a fun weekend get away.

Downeast Regatta- Mark your calendars, the 25th Annual Downeast regatta is hitting the shores of Casco Bay September 11th and 12th.  Sign up now and show you are a hard core “Downeaster.”

Friend of Fleet 43- Don’t forget to sign up to become a friend of fleet 43.  This shows your support of our fleet, gets the word out about fleet 43, and helps lower fleet costs.

Two fleet 43 boats participated in the District 1 Championships in Scituate this past weekend.  The Scituate fleet and Scituate Harbor Yacht club put on a fun and welcoming event.

J24 Canadian Nationals

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

This message serves to promote what is expected to be the biggest and best Canadian J24 Championship held to date.  We’re expecting about 40 boats, with representation from across Canada, Bermuda, the northeast US and possibly a few from Europe or Latin America.  The Atlantic Canadian fleet has gone from about 10 boats to more than 35 in the past 5 years and we’re now starting to grow even more quickly so we’re very keen to make this regatta a huge success. Next year, in 2011, we will host the North American Championship.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or anyone else on our organizing committee if you have questions of any nature.

Details of the event are at www.j24cdnnats2010.wordpress.com.

Many thanks
