Charitable Giving Opportunity
We hope none of our fleet members are looking to sell or give away their boats but if you are I recieved an e-mail recently that is a charitable alternative to selling:
_____________
My name is Alex Baum and I represent Hudson River Community Sailing, a non-profit in Manhattan which offers free sailing lessons to groups of underprivileged kids in the New York area. After only our first summer, we have already given over 300 kids this amazing, free opportunity. We are rapidly expanding our program which currently consists of three Rainbow 24s and two J24s into a second site and therefore need more boats.
I am very interested in determining whether anyone in your fleet is thinking of no longer using their J24. Hudson River Community Sailing is especially looking for those generous sailors who would be interested in a tax-deductible donation or reduced price sale. Because we are a non-profit and rely heavily on generous donations, the first option of a tax-deductible donation would be preferred. Can you think of any owners in your fleet or at your club who are no longer using their boat and thinking of selling it? Would it be possible for me to post a message on your district website or message board?
Please check out our website www.hudsonsailing.org to see what types of programs we offer and what we are all about. We have been featured in the New York Times(http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/20/nyregion/20sailing.html) , the New York Sun (http://www.nysun.com/new-york/new-youth-sailing-program-casts-off-on-the-hudson/79082/), the YES TV Network (http://www.yesnetwork.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080730&content_id=1450454&vkey=1), and sailinganarchy.com.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Alex Baum
